Love this joint! Seems like it's always a good time with excellent service and great food. The menu prices are decent especially compared to some of the chain restaurants in the area. Live music is a plus! Wish the patio wasn't so small/awkward so it could better accommodate larger parties.

This is a very nice place to grab dinner or late lunch with friends. It has a very laid back atmosphere and a nice outdoor dining area, which is always nice in these summer months! Also, they sometimes send out a coupon including a free 1/2 order of the Texas Shrimp, beware because once you try them you'll have to get them everytime LOL they are INCREDIBLE! They have a wide variety on the menu, and I can actually feel comfortable ordering something new all the time because it's always good. Definitely worth a try.

Since we live fairly close, my husband and I walked to Sunset Grill on a mild Feb. evening. Having worked up an appetite, I was really looking forward to dinner. The cheeseburger I ordered was not anything out of the ordinary but it WAS exactly how I ordered it. My husband ordered tuna steak and found it outstanding! The salad he had before dinner was dressed with an unusual house salad dressing that we loved! His sides of sauteed vegetables and rice were nice, too. Even though the restaurant wasn't that busy, the attention was rather sparse as the waitresses were busy wrapping forks and knives in napkins. The staff did their job fairly but nothing that indicated that they were glad we were there and their guest. The decor was not like anything else in Johnson County, which was refreshing!

My family and I come here about once a month. It is a welcome change from the usual places we eat at, that's for sure. They have a great magician, Tom Burgoon, that comes around table to table and does a fun little magic show for the kids on Sundays. The kids food is pretty good, albeit kinda pricey for what you get. They do offer a fruit cup option, which is a big two thumbs up over french fries. As for the grown-up food, it's top-notch. The Sunset Chopped Salad blows my mind. It is not a low-cal salad, that's for sure. Straight from the menu: Chopped garden greens with red onions, prosciutto ham, gorgonzola cheese, seasoned Roma tomatoes, and marinated chicken. Delicious "Sunset vinagrette". Seems pretty sugary, but with the salad it's a great combo. This has gotta be a 1k+ calorie salad, but it's good enough I don't really care. Also one of my favs is the Beach Fire Chicken Nachos. Totally awesome, probably the best nachos I've ever had. The Beach Fire sauce totally sets these apart from other nachos and makes these a unique experience among all the chips/cheese/beef offerings. I'd check it out in this not-so-quaint strip mall in SoJoCo.

Not a great experience... Food was wrong and then it was poor quality. The veggies were from a bag and nuked. Just not impressed.

A party of 7, 3 kids, 4 adults, had lunch/brunch here on April 1, 2012. We were seated as soon as we walked in the door at 12:05 and our waitress was there quickly to take drink orders. After the drinks arrive, our order was taken. Two had lunch items while the other 5 consumed breakfast items. Food arrive in an adequate amount of time, and all enjoyed their meal, even though one of the over-easy eggs was broken and fried hard. We were also able to talk among ourselves without screaming, which is desirable. Try it, I think you'll like it.

My parents and I dined on the patio just recently and had an overall pleasant experience. We had all had experience eating at Gambucci's several years ago before it closed and enjoyed their chopped salad. Apparently, management from that restaurant is currently managing this restaurant so I very excited to get a taste of it again. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. When I told him I had a gluten allergy, he recommended the chopped salad and the black bean soup. Food came out quickly, and portions were large. The chopped salad was perfect, crisp and fresh. The tastes of the sweet and salty were wonderfully balanced. The black bean soup had a dollop of.. I think pineapple in the middle. It was thick and hearty. I had to get a to go container, I barely touched my soup since the salad was so large.

This is a fantastic place. The food is really good, I have had both dinner and breakfast. I have never had to wait long to be seated and the service is always fast and friendly. This is one of me and my sister's favorite places to go. Its so good!

This review is for the bar section only, not the restaurant. Met a friend here on Friday night around 9:30 PM. He told me Sunset Grill is his favorite drinking spot and that he'll usually spend all afternoon/evening here. I can definitely see why: They checked my ID at the beginning but didn't take my card or make me pay after each drink. It's like they trusted me or something. By recommendation of a regular, my drink of the night was something called "Brass Balls." It had peach, and pineapple, and I really don't know what else... 1st drink: Amazing. 2nd drink: Still so so good . {vodka soaked pineapple} 1 sip of my 3rd drink: and whoa, the room is spinning. {cup of some sort of chocolaty thing} A couple waters later and I still can't shake the dizziness. Darn those Brass Balls. Our bartenders were ridiculously great. The second my glass was empty, they were handing me another one. Each time some high-maintenance girl ordered some over- the- top frozen drink, our bartender would bring my group the extra from the blender. That's what I do as a barista, and that's what set this place far higher than the others. I visited the bathroom at least 5 times that night and it was CLEAN. Very clean and very cute with quotes and flowers on the walls. I was scared of what my tab would be at the end. All of the before-mentioned came out to $17.25. 5 something each for my drinks and the pineapple and chocolate sample were on the house. I approve. Oh, and to make things even more perfect, the band played oldies songs all night. I don't remember the names, but I remember knowing most of them. One of the songs was "Sweet Caroline." Strong drinks. Generous bartenders. Oldies songs in a bar. My new favorite place to drink.

This is a very laid back place, think classy Jimmy Buffet, not at all what I was expecting to find this far south in JoCo. We stopped in for breakfast the Saturday before Mother's Day when other plans fell through. This place was picked by proximity and Yelp reviews. Our server was prompt and friendly, the food arrived in a timely manner and every single thing was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. My grandmother devoured her pancakes, she made a happy plate! Mom's eggs benedict w spinach was perfect and the flamingo french toast I ordered was daring me to inhale the whole thing and then lick the plate clean. I managed to show some restraint, but just barely. Portion size is perfect and everything is reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to a return trip. Maybe a happy hour...
The bacon-wrapped shrimp is a great appetizer and the burgers are very good.

I've liked everything my fiance has had there, but their coconut shrimp isn't much to brag about. Also, skip the chips and dip. They have options for skewers and I'd definitely do that. There is hardly ever a wait, and the staff is pretty good. Drink and food prices are average.

I made a reservation for 12 two weeks in advance as we were having friends in from out of town. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were given 11 chairs around 3 round tables shoved together as if we were walk-ins. We had to snag a 12th chair and were even more crowded around this awkward table configuration. The service otherwise was good and the food wasn't bad but first impressions being what they are, we won't be back. Especially not with a large party.

This is a place that never disappoints. It's not fancy and the menu is simple, but the service is always prompt and the food is very consistent. Get the Sunset Chopped Salad. The lunch size is usually enough, but the dinner size works if you're hungry. The prices are reasonable. Although this is a family place, it's never noisy and the acoustics are good. If you want to watch a game, check out the bar with plenty of TVs and the same good service.

Had a muncharoo coupon to try this place and was surprised how good it was! I got the boiled shrimp and my girlfriend got the salmon. We both really liked our food. We love Sunset Grill! It's a locally owned restaurant that caterers to the neighborhoods around it! Unique food, close to home, nice entertainment a couple of times each month (Friday & Sat nights). ie Elvis, The Rat Pat, & more! Plus the have awesome breakfasts on Sat & Sun mornings. My family loves the Breakfast skillet! We love when the weather is good, to sit under the umbrella and enjoy the morning!!

We took our family there this week. This was our first visit. We each ordered something different and shared what we had. The boiled shrimp and salmon were very good. Liked the drums and wings and the sunset salad. They have a version of a french dip (which I try everywhere!) There was a nice portion of beef and you get a choice of sides. Their kids menu has all the basics a kids would love, but the vacation like atmosphere was appealing for them. It's comfortable and had good service. I would definitely come back. One day I'll try one of their weekend breakfasts.

This is just a cozy restaurant in South OP. I have only been there for lunch, but the sandwiches and salads are really quality. The thing that makes it different is that all their ingredients are fresh and you can taste it. Their cole slaw is made in-house, not from Sysco or the like. And I don't even like cole-slaw. The service is friendly and the atmosphere, while a little cheesy (tiki-style), is fine too.

I've been here multiple times since it opened and the food is awful. I honestly don't understand how it has such good reviews! They can't even make a Caesar salad. The food is very poor quality as is the staff. I highly recommend spending your money somewhere else.

We are big fans of this locally owned establishment in the land of chain domination. The sunset chopped salad is outstanding, we also get the calypso chicken and salmon regularly. The beer is cold and they have great bloody marrys.

This place is just all right. Bland, uninspired food. See my picture of the biscuit (singular) and gravy. This was the "Biscuits, Gravy and More" off the Sunday breakfast menu: one wimpy biscuit, meatless gravy, bland fried potatoes (no onion, no peppers, no seasoning). All served nice and lukewarm. Had the parmesan chicken stir fry for lunch another time. While the flavors were decent, it was mostly a bowl of wild rice with a couple bites of chicken thrown in. I probably won't be going back again.

Brandy R.
I went here based on the other reviews and I was SO disappointed. The service was sub-par. But the food was the real issue. Even the soup was greasy! I had a BBQ sandwich and the bread was greasy, there wasn't enough sauce on the meat (which had been described as "drenched' in the menu). Overall it was a very below average experience. I couldn't care less if this place is locally-owned. If the food isn't good, the place isn't good! I definitely won't be going back.

Sunset a Grill has always been a favorite lunch and happy hour spot for me. For the number of times I've frequented it, I'm embarrassed that I've almost always gotten the same thing, the chopped salad. But, the fabulous Sunset Chopped Salad is that good in my book! They also have a great selection of salads, sandwiches, soups, etc. that look good. There are happy hour specials and a nice variety of appetizers that are quite tasty. We have also found ourselves at Sunset Grill late night, when they often times have live entertainment. This is a great local bar and grill.
(4)

Fantastic place that is locally owned and supported. Live music Friday and Saturday, breakfast on the weekend, and a chopped salad that had to be one of the best menu items in the area. Top it all of with house made margaritas and you are sure to enjoy yourself. Place is full of regulars, and it won't take long for the staff to make you feel like one too. Did I mention they cater?

Here's why you should go eat at Sunset Grill. - food is excellent! - high quality food - good portion sizes - great service - prices are decent (we paid $28 for breakfast) Can't wait to go back for lunch/dinner. Their happy hour menu looked great. Lots of yummy appetizers for 50% off!

Not so good. We went here to try another local restaurant and were not impressed. They seem to be confused about what kind of restaurant they are. They have some Mexican dishes but serve plenty of sandwiches and even pasta. I actually got the pasta and it was good. My husband got a burger and said it was the worst burger he's ever eaten. It was definitely a frozen patty and was unevenly cooked. Also the cheddar cheese on top was shredded and not even melted. The fries were also frozen and bland. We're going to try somewhere else next time.

Overpriced food. The best part of the experience was the friendly host. The waitress didn't seem to really care or want to be there and the food was just okay. For two adults, two kids, we spent over $60. My volcanic pasta was simple (spicy noodles, plain chicken covered in cheese), but the leftovers were better warmed up the next day. My husband had the paradise sandwich. It was open faced and on Texas toast. He wasn't impressed. The kids pizza came out on a soft bread and was covered in sauce. My kid was a disaster as it was nearly impossible to eat without a fork. My oldest kid seemed to enjoy his chicken tenders. Probably not a place that we will return to as a family.

This place is really good. We went there yesterday for the first time and enjoyed everything we ordered. The portions are big and the meals were tasty. I had the breakfast quesadilla and loved it! The service was great too and servers were really polite. Glad we found this place, will definitely be back!

Love this gem, love the decor inside and the friendly staff, sorta makes me feel like I'm on vacation. My favorite is the artichoke & jalepenio dip... Cup $5.00 bowl $6.75 Some things on the menu include Frisch burger Maui burger Paradise chicken sandwich Fresh salmon Fajitas Blackened chicken sandwich They serve breakfast on Saturdays and Sunday's Let's not forget they have live music On Friday nights! Try this place out, you might just like it :)

Pretty fun! Live music (Saturday Night - Saturnight). Some Blues Travelers kinda dude. He was good ! The food was actually pretty good for bar food. Just got a couple of sandwiches. Smoked Turkey Melt was pretty tasty. The Charros beans are a nice alternative for a side. Strong and delicious drinks (sunset margarita - yum), but they don't have any specials that are worth mentioning. Waitress was nice. Plenty of parking. Outdoor seating, but it was raining the day we went. The decoration is not nearly as loud as I expected it to be. Sticky menus. All in all it was a pleasant experience.

Pretty good overall first experience. We were looking for Saturday breakfast and couldn't get in at First Watch. We found this restaurant on the Internet and tried to give it a shot. We were seated quickly and the staff was friendly. The menu didn't seem to line up with the decor. There was definitely an older crowd feel to the place. I ordered a wonderful, and inexpensive mimosa. We split the breakfast quesadilla and a biscuit with gravy on the side. The quesadilla was definitely big enough for two and it was awesome. The biscuit was a little dry and the gravy lacked some flavor but with the huge quesadilla we didn't need it. Our server was great and friendly. The dinner menu looked good and more in line with the theme. The specialty drink menu looked incredible and right up my fruity, alcoholic alley. The bar area also had a younger feel and appearance. We can't wait to try it out. 4 stars for food, 5 for service, 3 for decor. We will be back!

Took a chance and tried this place for the third time on a whim and it struck out once and for all. I think it's an okay place and has seen favorable reviews based only on the fact that it's the only place like it in OP. The food is decent for the area but would be just another place anywhere else. The menu is of decent size and the prices are what you'd expect for this locale. The wait staff mostly consists of what seems to be the local high school cheerleading squad and the service is mediocre. This last visit, the particular waitress I had acted like she had better things to do and that is what put the final nail in the coffin for me. I left before ordering and went somewhere else. Not bad but certainly not a place I'll be likely to visit again.

Well picture a kitchen with row after row of microwaves. Possibly two or three layers stacked high and a walk-in cooler that could house a couple suburbans full of buckets of your entrée of choice. That's what's hittin my pallet. Be sure not to be too tempted on a beverage. I'd suggest plain ol h20 to wash it all down. High hopes. Cute place. Nice staff.

We are big fans of this locally owned establishment in the land of chain domination. The sunset chopped salad is outstanding, we also get the calypso chicken and salmon regularly. The beer is cold and they have great bloody marrys.

Food is outstanding and the service was great. They have a wide variety of selections and specials. They also serve breakfast. Definitely would recommend!

Great food & drinks, live entertainment and even better service! Ask for Flor she is attentive, knowledgable and genuinely friendly (not your average "order taker"). Also, the chopped sunset salad is perfection!

Was hoping to review the food, but after 10 minutes in the bar and was not acknowledged, I moved on
